Episode 28: The Truth About Zionism

Pretty much self explanatory.

Okay Ehav --
Listenting to this blog on Zionism, has me so curious on learning more. I only listened to your vlog once, but I know I will have to listen several times again to retain a fuller understanding.

So I am curious enough to pull several books off my shelf that I have been interested in reading -- one is "The History of the Jews" by Paul Johnson and the other is "The Israel-Arab Reader" updated in 1995 by editors Walter Laqueur and Barry Rubin.

Are you familiar with these books? I want to understand more of the history and comtemporary realities of Israel. If you can suggest other reading I will be greatly appreciative. I am pretty familiar with the Old Testament history of the Jews and the events of the Holocaust, and a little understanding of the importance of Aaliyah for the Jewish people. I know a little about the 6 day war -- but I must admit that the history of Palestine and Israel and comtempary events are quite confusing to me.

Would you recommend reading President Carter's recent book to shed additional light from an political view? I do know that it was an extremely controversial book in the media in the States several years ago. You may want to reply off line to my questions.

Thanks for sharing the information.

Greetings Farabanbata,

The first thing I would suggest is viewing the video the Forgotten Refugees. You watch it here. I will have more info later.

A few good books that deal with some of the less spoken about issues can be found in the following books.

*Jewish Communities in Exotic Places by Ken Blady

*Jews of Arab Lands: A History and Source Book by Norman A. Stillman

*Battles Of The Bible by Chaim Herzog

* Wars of the Jews: A Military History from Biblical to Modern Times
by Monroe Rosenthal

*Sephardi Religious Responses to Modernity (The Sherman Lecture Series, Vol 1)
by Stillman

*The Jews of the Middle East and North Africa in Modern Times
by Reeva Spector Simon

*The Keepers: An Introduction to the History and Culture of the Samaritans
by Robert T. Anderson

*From Time Immemorial: The Origins of the Arab-Jewish Conflict over Palestine by Joan Peters

I am not a fan of Jimmy Carter, since he and every American president since him have been trying to force an outside view of the middle east in a region that can solve its own problems.
