בית כנסת תפארת תימן מעלה אדומים

The following is a video I created for my Beith Keneseth (synagogue) here in Maale Adummim, Tifereth Teiman. The video is in Hebrew, but the short version of what is being said is a history of how the synagogue got started in Maale Adummim, and about the culture of the synagogue. Tifereth Teiman is a Yemenite Jewish synagogue, going by the Baladi tradition. This was filmed during Hol HaMoed of Sukkoth, 2008. So enjoy.

Thanks. That was even one of my off days. I knew I would have a problem with וכבשים

All because of where the first ta'amim is. Parasha Re'eh, aliyah 6 is my best though.

Why are they confusing qomatz and holom? Is this an Israeli thing?

That many knit kippot does NOT make me comfortable.

Teimanim pronounce Qomatz as an "ow" sound and holom as an almost "ugh" sound in tefilah and Qriath Torah.

I am well aware that qomatz is "aw" and holom is "oe" in havarat Teiman. It's just that I hear them both vocalized as the Israeli "o".

The pronunciation of Holom differs depending on what part of Teiman their families came from. I know of about 3 ways I have heard Teimanim pronounce it. Each time my mori pointed out where they were from. Some do more of an eh, some more of an ugh, and others more of an oh. It is no different than how some Teimanim say Jimal and others say Gimal or Koof vs. Goof.
